Well folks, Talisman will be on view from June 6th-July 6th at Artspace111! I’ve worked the last few months on this show and if my current feelings were a soup, the ingredients would be: relief and exhaustion sprinkled with a nice sense of completion and a side of anxiety.

The opening reception is June 6th. I didn’t chose that particular date, it’s just a little cosmic treat that disguised itself as the most fitting day on the gallery’s calendar but it actually has great significance to me. My dad’s nickname was Wild Bill and he lived up to it big time. He was the funniest, saddest, and most unique person I’ve ever known and not only was June 6th the day he was born, it was also the same day he died eleven years ago and I’m gonna imagine that he’s standing right next to me that night.

TINY GUYS

The Talisman work may be wrapping up but the tiny guys continue to march forward. Several 4”x4” wood panels leftover from the Small Is What I Can Give Completely series were used for new paintings.

Moving work out for the show’s install means the studio and my headspace have breathing room for new ideas. And they’re really not “new” ideas, they’re just the most recently updated and complete version of all previous ideas culminated into a new little monster to explore.

The last several months (years actually) have focused on making imagery of vast landscapes and those landscapes were all painted with the intention of being shown to lots of eyeballs out there in the big ole world. Working that way has made me interested in making imagery of the detailed aspects found in those vast landscapes. (Examples pictured below. Thistle-esque flower obsession…check.) It also inspired me to begin a sketch journal to only share between myself and the Universe. Our private conversation.

There would be no Talisman series without the Lolly and the Talisman book. Lolly rules and I wanted a little shrine in the show to honor her awesomeness and applaud her adventurous spirit. Several limited edition Lolly prints, books, and other goodies will be featured. Go Lolly go!
