I think about this year’s total eclipse often and it reminds me of how magical Halley’s Comet was to my eleven year old kid self when it shot through the sky all those years ago. The guys below will be at Artspace111 for Fall Gallery Night (September 7th).

ALTARS

When I started the Dream Flower Guides, I didn’t know how many altars would make up the series. Now I know it is ten.

I make catalogs for each of my painting series and the process is downright fun because I’m a big nerd. Usually it’s just one or two copies for the ole studio archives but for this series, I made enough catalogs that each altar comes with one.

When a work leaves the studio, it begins its own life. Most often, I never see it again but sometimes our paths cross somewhere down the road.

It’s great to see this diptych living in a beautiful space. It was painted in 2019 in my old Chalk Mountain studio, which at the time, had no heat and was completely unfinished.

For the last year or so, when I write a story or make a painting, the main character of the work is Lolly. She’s rarely visible in the composition but we’re either following the path from one of her adventures or experiencing a landscape that provided her with some big knowledge. Dream Flower Guides is a collection of guides that accompany Lolly on her journeys.
