June’s focus was the Talisman show: installing, enjoying the opening, giving an artist talk, and mentally processing the journey of completing a series and I’d have to say that it’s been my favorite exhibition experience to date. It has felt honest, and warm, and provided me with the opportunity for meaningful conversations. Thanks to the Artspace111 team for embracing the work with such care, all the great folks that took the time to see it, and my sweet fam for the love and support. (And the show it still on view through mid-July!)

NEW WORK

Last month was dedicated to sending a body of work into the world, this month’s focus is creating the space for new work.

Scientific illustrations and photorealistic still lifes require accuracy - shadows need to match where the sun sits in the sky and flowers need to bloom in the appropriate season and environment. Paintings that document the personal experiences of life as a human do not require that level of strictness and these are the kinds of paintings I want to make.

So I’ve been drawing Dream Flowers. The first flower was sparked by a dream and the ones that followed were made while trying my darnedest to be open and connected to the intangible source of life energy that cradles us. (Honoring all the dreamcatcher-ie/granola/hippie jazz…check.)

Original little Lolly paintings had a spot in the Talisman show. I’ve wanted to make a real version of The Lolly Shop sign from The Whittled Cog Knot Shop book for like, ever. So….ta-dah!

I love our growing garden and all of the critters and life that live here. The first several months after moving into our home were spent loving the neglected backyard which meant moving a lot of lava rocks and the experience made it into a painting.
